Overview

Our customer-centric service offerings include the rigorous assessments that manufacturers, installers, brand owners, retailers, regulatory bodies and consumers have come to expect from UL.

We evaluate over 70 different wire and cable product categories to national and international standards for safety, performance, quality, environmental impact and regulatory compliance as required for markets in Latin America, North America, Europe, Asia and Middle East. Our customized service packages help reduce redundant testing, which saves both time and money, and helps you get safer and better-quality products to market more quickly.

Appliance Wiring Material Testing and Certification

Our comprehensive certification program for appliance wiring material (AWM) enables you to objectively and credibly demonstrate compliance, while enabling thousands of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to find and source your products.

We offer a broad and comprehensive certification program for AWM. We can meet your testing and certification needs for new constructions (styles) of appliance wiring material intended for use in innovative applications and products.

We test AWM to ANSI/UL 758, the Standard for Safety for Appliance Wiring Material. The types of tests performed depend on the construction and anticipated use of the product.

Flexible Cord Testing and Evaluation

We can help detect variances and defects at critical checkpoints throughout the supply chain and perform quality and compliance tests across the entire manufacturing process. Our customers particularly rely on our expertise in safety science and compliance to help determine whether flexible cords intended for use in especially demanding situations — such as charging electric vehicles — will operate as expected under heavy usage and despite exposure to sometimes challenging environmental conditions.

Data Sync and Charger Cable Certification Program

We offer compliance testing, performance Verification and safety certification programs that focus on addressing the real needs of manufacturers, brand owners, installers, retailers, end users and other key stakeholders to differentiate their product, compete on a level playing field, and obtain the peace of mind needed to market, source, purchase and consume the products.

To help ensure integrity of high-speed signal and data transmission, the cable has to pass through sophisticated electrical performance test requirements. The safety testing/certification addresses the safety concerns of high-speed data cable that provide data transmission and powering through the control of connector/cable materials, electrical design and performing testing in accordance with to the pertinent industry performance specifications.

Local Area Network (LAN) Cable Verification Program

Our dedicated LAN laboratory is equipped with fully automated, software-controlled equipment that provides real-time LAN cable testing results. Test services for cable, links and channels include active, passive, environmental, balunless, shielding effectiveness and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). We can also design custom testing programs based on your proprietary specifications.

Power Utility Cable Compliance Solutions

We work with product manufacturers to test and certify power cable products for utility, engineering procurement and construction (EPC), renewable energy and construction use. We provide safety certification and performance Verification services, including UL 1072, IEC, AEIC, and ICEA for power cables, to product manufacturers. Additionally, we provide International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) type testing and qualification testing services to manufacturers requiring a type examination certificate for the markets in which these certificates are required.

Seasonal Lighting Safety Testing and Certification Services

We test decorative lighting products to ANSI/UL 588, the Standard for Safety of Seasonal Use Decorative-Lighting Products.

We offer a service bundle that includes ENERGY STAR® qualification, which is key to increasing product competitiveness in this market. In addition to improving product appeal and helping manufacturers market their energy-saving decorative lighting strings to the North American market, our integrated compliance solution adds value by offering both safety and energy-efficiency testing for decorative lighting strings in a single program that simplifies the application process and reduces administrative costs for manufacturers.

Telecommunications Cable Testing, Certification, and Verification

As one of the world’s most trusted names in third-party product safety certifications, our service provides an effective way to help ensure that your installations are future-proof and are not susceptible to safety issues. Cables that are tested and certified by us will be distinguished with an industry recognized and trusted Mark — the UL Certification Mark. This Mark not only helps ensure that your products are compliant with industry standards, it also reduces risk to all stakeholders in the supply chain. That’s how we help you drive confidence and trust in your brand, and that’s what will set you apart.

Our proprietary structured cabling performance verification service offers several options to verify that your products have been tested and/or certified to the industry’s highest standards for safety and performance. Each cable type, such as communications multipurpose cable, plenum (CMP), riser (CMR) and communications multipurpose (CM), is tested depending on its anticipated installation and use.

Our services include:

  • Certification service – Products in compliance with the applicable performance standards that have been investigated for use in accordance with the ANSI/NFPA 70 National Electric Code (NEC) are authorized to bear UL’s certification Mark.
  • Letter report service – Under this option, cables are subjected to a one-time Verification test. A letter report is issued documenting the results, but no certification is granted, and there is no requirement for ongoing compliance testing.
  • Non-listed cables verified for performance – These cables are intended for installation and use in countries other than the United States where the NEC is not applicable. These cables can be evaluated for transmission performance and are verified in accordance with National or International Specifications (DVBI) category.

Wiring Harness Traceability Program

Our Wiring Harness Traceability program monitors cables as they move from the manufacturing plant to the harness producer and into the final assembly line. Doing so has allowed us to build a network of more than 2,000 UL-certified wiring harness manufacturers based on end-product investigations. Having access to these suppliers enables you to fulfill your cable sourcing needs with confidence and introduce new harness designs into your supply chain quickly – saving you time, money and a whole lot of stress.
